Bird Garden Open to the Public

Ramsey Canyon has the distinction of being the countries first National Natural Landmark.  Because of its unique natural environment numerous animals and birds call it home year round or during their migration.  It is the hummingbird capital of the nation hosting such species as the Annas, Berryline, Black Chinned, Blue Throated Mountain Gem, Broad-billed, Broad-tailed, Calliope, Costa's, Rivoli, Rufous, Violet Crowned and White Eared.  With over 170 different species of birds that come through the area, it is a true Birders Paradise!  We have over 50 bird and hummingbird feeders throughout the property to increase your viewing opportunities and a Bird Garden with 20 feeders, a water fountain and plenty of shaded seating to relax and enjoy.  Please call us at 520-255-9166 with any questions you may have and visit our Bird Garden page for more information.  Click here to see the most recent eBird checklist of birds sighted on the property.

Coues whitetail deer, and Goulds turkeys are abundant and on the property everyday, and you may also see coatimundis, foxes, ring tailed cats, racoons, squirrels, skunks and javelina.  During season there are a pair of Elf Owls located in the Sycamore trees next to the Cowboy Cabin.  At dusk they become active and provide opportunities for viewing and picture taking.  We have also been very fortunate to have a family of Whiskered Screech Owls nest in a Sycamore tree near the well house on the property.

The property consists of 8 private acres, sits at approximately 5400' in elevation and is part of the larger Huachuca Mountains.  It is part of the "Sky Islands" which is a unique ecosystem with an amazing amount of biodiversity.  The change in elevation from the valley creates an amazing environment Most don't expect to find in "the desert".  There are 4 different trails that total a little over a mile on site.  The trails meander through the property and along spring fed Ramsey Canyon Creek offering views of the canyon cliffs(reefs), Sierra Vista and Dragoon Mountains.  We are only a 1/4 mile from the Ramsey Canyon Preserve which also offers many hiking trails and birding opportunities.  The canyon is heavily treed with a large variety of Pines, Junipers, Oaks, Sycamores, Maples, and Cottonwoods which help keep temperatures about 15-20* cooler than Phoenix and 10-15* cooler than Tucson in the summer making it a perfect getaway to beat the summer heat or for a change of weather during any season!  Click here to see our weather!

Whatever season you choose, Ramsey Canyon is a welcome escape from the noise, distractions and stress of everyday life.  Reservations are available online click here.  If you have any questions about our newly renovated cabins and property please feel free to call Jen at 520-255-9166.  Thank you very much for your interest, we look forward to your visit!

    Carrie 11-2022 Cowboy Cabin

My husband and I had signed up for the Sky Island Bike Tour in Sierra Vista and needed a place to stay close by. Luckily, I found the Ramsey Canyon Cabins and chose the Cowboy Cabin as it stated it was private and surrounded by nature. The cabin indeed was surrounded by nature, was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the kitchen had ample supplies for cooking. The best part was the wildlife viewing. The deer, turkeys, birds, squirrels and hawks were a delight to see as they would surround our patio every morning. Also, having Ramsey Canyon Nature Preserve, which is a wonderful birding destination just a short walk from the cabin, was an added bonus. Would highly recommend the Cowboy Cabin at Ramsey Canyon Cabins and hope to return!

    Ann 10-2022 Hummingbird Cabin

The Ramsey Canyon Cabin experience is magical. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by several species of stunning hummingbirds that were at the numerous feeders positioned around our cabin's deck.
The cabin itself was comfortable and super clean. They thought of everything - I like to cook and the kitchen is fully equipped and I found all that I needed. The cabin we stayed in had a BBQ and we were able to cook some delicious steaks. The WIFI worked beautifully.  They even give you a supply of sugar water to refill the feeders as the hummingbirds are so voracious!
What we enjoyed most was the tranquility and beauty of the natural surroundings. The new owners have created a network of paths around the property which take you to other areas with feeders and down to, and over the creek. There are several areas with seating scattered throughout the property where you can relax, enjoy nature and bird watch. I actually came to the area for birding and found the birds were more abundant at the cabins than at the nearby nature preserve, but it is an easy walk from the cabins and definitely worth checking out. However, we were more than satisfied to hang out on the property.

This place was so tranquil, my daughter and I enjoyed the wildlife and all the many different birds! We enjoyed the walks through forest and the stream with waterfalls. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. So many sitting areas to enjoy the scenery. We loved it. We would come back for sure! The owners were very polite and gave us so many interesting facts. We saw 2 two day old fawns. Thank you Jen!

We had a fabulous stay at the beautiful Ramsey Canyon Cabins. The Tranquil Hummingbird Cabin was perfect. Jen and Greg have equipped the cabin with everything to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. We saw many hummingbirds and other birds at the feeders right outside our windows. In fact we got some of our best pictures without even having to leave the cabin. We enjoyed the nightly visits by the deer and the skunk and the bats. We also loved walking the trails on the property and sitting in the peaceful bird garden. We are already planning a return trip in 2023. Highly recommended!

My weekend stay at the Relaxing Cowboy Cabin was a mother's day gift from my husband. I went all by myself, and let me tell you, it was the most relaxing weekend I have had for as long as I can remember. The cabin is located far enough off the beaten path that I did not have to worry about any noise from traffic, but is still close to gas stations, coffee shops and restaurants, as well as convenience stores like Dollar General. The inside of the cabin was very clean, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. The hosts were very quick to respond to any communications I sent them, and made sure the cabin had all I needed as far as necessities (towels/toilet paper/dishes/cutlery). I will absolutely be back, and will most likely be making this an annual, if not semi-annual tradition. 10/10

Great opportunity to relax for a couple days and take pictures of dozens of bird species. In addition to the 50+ feeders, there was a cooper's hawk nest on one of the hiking trails and an ele owl's nest in a large tree. Definitely a place worth returning to in the future. Cabin was very clean and updated. There was a separate purifier for drinking water. My wife and I had a great stay and I got some nice pictures to post on Instagram (tagged with #ramseycanyoncabins).
